History
When architect and planner Frank Lewinberg established a planning consultancy in 1981, his goals were to work hard, have fun and create better urban environments. These values have translated, 24 years later, into a firm with 60+ staff and an international portfolio.
In 1986, Joe Berridge and Frank joined together, and by 1988 the consultancy had become Berridge Lewinberg Greenberg (Ken Greenberg would remain until 2000). The surnames of George Dark and Andrea Gabor, partners since 1989, elongated the name in 1994.
By the late 1990s, many of the senior planners and designers, who had allowed the firm to expand its services and geographic reach, were ready to take the firm to new heights. In 1998, the number of associates grew from three to nine and the name was changed to Urban Strategies Inc. In 2002, the next generation took its place at the head of the firm when Connie Pasqualitto and Cyndi Rottenberg - Walker became partners. They were joined in 2005 by four more - Pino Di Mascio, Melanie Hare, Mark Reid and Michel Trocmé.
Urban Strategies has always balanced public and private sector work and taken a strategic approach to city building.
The firm planted some of the first seeds of the ongoing urban renaissance in North America and the UK with groundbreaking studies on downtown living, intensification and urban regeneration. It also guided many landmark developments in Toronto and beyond. Today, Urban Strategies continues to build on its international reputation as it takes on a diversity of urban challenges across North America and abroad.
