In a series of workshops, Urban Strategies, in collaboration with other consultants, refined the “Villages and Open Space Concept,” a key element of Sarasota County’s growth management strategy. Principles were drafted that encourage the development of compact, mixed-use, pedestrian-friendly villages. We identified development alternatives for the transfer of development rights, described three distinct settlement typologies and proposed design standards to guide future development.
