Following the election of Helen Burstyn as Chair of  Evergreen Foundation of Canada, George Dark has been elected as Chairman Emeritus. George will continue as a member of its Board of Directors and will serve on the Executive Committee. A footbridge at the Brickworks has been named after George Dark in recognition of his years of leadership.

George was Chair of the Board from 2004-2014. During this period, Evergreen has grown into one of the leading environmental agencies in Canada. One of Evergreen’s most ambitious and recognizable projects over the past ten years has been the transformation of Toronto’s historic Don Valley Brick Works into Canada’s first large-scale community environmental centre. As Chair of the Board of Directors and Co-chair of the Evergreen Brick Works Advisory Committee, George brought together a diverse group of partners to build the vision for the site using a highly collaborative approach. Today, through the adaptive reuse of existing buildings and innovative green construction, the new Evergreen Brick Works is a venue for exploring cutting-edge green technologies and a broad suite of environmental programming.
