Adason Properties, the wholly-owned real estate arm of the Canada Life Assurance Company, is one of several development companies that retain Urban Strategies for ongoing planning and urban design advice. In 1988, Adason retained Urban Strategies to prepare a master plan for redevelopment of its head office property in downtown Toronto. Envisioning a campus-like environment, the plan proposes an urban square framed by four new office blocks and the historic headquarters building on University Avenue. The plan and its phasing strategy anticipate multiple tenants and a range of other uses, including residential, hotel and retail. Urban Strategies helped manage an architectural competition for the first phase office building and then negotiated with the City for the required planning approvals. We continue to play an advisory role as the master plan is gradually implemented.
