Deerhurst Resort Village Centre Plan
2012 - 2014
Huntsville, Ontario
Deerhurst Resort is popular retreat in Ontario’s Muskoka region. Established in 1896, it now encompasses 760 acres and includes several remarkable natural assets, such as a shoreline along Peninsula Lake and the Muskoka River.
Despite its history in the region and its amenities, the Resort lacks a clear vision for future development. Today, it is very dispersed, lacks a clear centre, and lacks a critical activity focus with a range of expanded program amenities needed to enhance its destination draw.
Urban Strategies is working towards developing a concept plan for a Resort Village Centre in a central location at Deerhurst Resort. Urban Strategies hosted an Ideas Charrette and an Open House to get public feedback on the goals and programming of the Centre. The development concept plan includes a central pedestrian and activity boulevard oriented to take advantage of stunning views, new residential and mixed-use development, a signature hotel, key linkages across the development parcels, and an interconnected network of trails.
