Mimico 2020 Revitalization Action Plan
2009
Etobicoke, Ontario
The goal of the Mimico 20/20: A Revitalization Action Plan was to bring forward the established Mimico Vision & Community Priorities through the creation of an area-wide conceptual redevelopment scheme for this historic waterfront community.
A major component of the study process was the four-day Mimico 20/20 Revitalization Charette. The charette was a major community event, offering almost 20 separate educational sessions on various city-building themes. The format of the event was diverse and included round table discussions, workshops, invited guest speakers, on-going scale modeling and hands-on design sessions. Sessions were open to the public, and attracted over 200 participants, including residents, community groups, the City, agencies, land owners and businesses. During the charrette, participants identified targeted strategies to help direct future change and created a large architectural model that explored potential future development opportunities. Proposals included building on vacant sites, redeveloping a selection of existing sites and intensifying on those sites which are currently vacant or under-utilized.
The Mimico 20/20 Revitalization Action Plan provides a long-term revitalization strategy for Mimico that builds on the area’s strengths and creates new opportunities for positive incremental change along the Lake Shore Boulevard corridor between Royal York Boulevard and the Mimico Creek.
