UOIT Downtown Oshawa Feasibility & Master Plan Study
2010 - 2011
Oshawa, Ontario
Urban Strategies Inc. was retained by the Ontario Tech University (formerly Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT)) to undertake a feasibility and master plan study for the planned expansion of its downtown campus. Founded in 2002, Ontario Tech University is Ontario’s youngest University, but has grown rapidly to an enrollment of over 7,000 students. Ontario Tech University currently has 1,500 downtown students with a planned enrollment of up to 10,000 downtown.
Urban Strategies led a team that explored a wide array of considerations, including urban design and planning, student accommodation and housing assessment, facility needs asessment, servicing requirements, transportation and parking demand assessment, economic impact assessment, environmental sustainability, accessibility and community and social impact assessment. The study sets out an ambitious but realistic action plan to allow responsible growth to 2015 and beyond to 2030.
