Saskatoon Community Visioning
2010 - 2012
Saskatoon, Saskatchewan
Saskatoon is a booming mid-sized city with the potential to double its population in the next 50 years. In order to accommodate this growth in a manner that is sustainable and retains the quality of life that residents enjoy, the city initiated a community visioning exercise. Saskatoon Speaks engaged the community in an informed discussion on all aspects of city-building. Using a video, a “Background Book”, project web site and presentations, we developed and communicated the ‘story’ of Saskatoon to highlight issues and opportunities facing the city.
A wide range of events and forums engaged the public, including a three-day city-wide summit, a themed workshop series, and an implementation and action forum, all facilitated by Urban Strategies, as well as social media. The consultation process and final Community Vision document prepared by Urban Strategies has brought sustainable development to the forefront of the City’s new Strategic Plan and is informing the Integrated Growth Plan.
