Niagara Lakefront Enhancement Strategy
2012 - 2014
Niagara Region, Ontario
In 2012, Urban Strategies was retained by the Niagara Region to assist with the development of the Niagara Lakefront Enhancement Strategy (LES). The deliverables from this study are intended to be used as a framework that the Niagara Region can use to guide enhancement and improvement of public access to both the Lake Ontario and Lake Erie shorelines. The focus of the strategy will be on the role that the Niagara Region can play in lakefront enhancement. The goal is to create a Lakefront Enhancement Strategy that articulates a vision and set of strategies that can provide more opportunities for people to experience the lakefront in meaningful ways. Development of the LES involved a great deal of consultation with Regional staff, Mayors and municipal staff from the twelve local area municipalities, stakeholders, members of the private sector, and the public, as well as mapping and policy analysis for both lakefronts.
