Saputo Dairyland Plant
2019 – Present
Burnaby, BC
Urban Strategies has been working collaboratively with the client and consultant team advising on Master Plan opportunities for the former Saputo Dairyland site. The lands comprise approximately 19 acres, located adjacent to the SkyTrain rapid transit line within the Bainbridge neighbourhood of Burnaby.
Saputo’s relocation presents a multi-dimensional opportunity to transform this large industrial site into a complete community offering a mix of housing options, local employment, services and amenities at transit and pedestrian-oriented scales. Interest in developing a Master Plan for the site is occurring alongside the City of Burnaby’s development of a new Community Plan framework for the Bainbridge Urban Village. Urban Strategies’ work has helped position the client team to proactively engage in this important update to the surrounding policy framework, which has begun to explore opportunities for this exciting site. In keeping with draft directions coming forward through the Community Plan update process, the former Saputo site will be a defining element of this contemporary Urban Village, acting as a gateway from the SkyTrain station and a catalyst for improved connectivity, stitching together the broader neighbourhoods and destinations within Bainbridge.
